Every school day, our students rely on families, bus operators, and motorists working together to ensure a safe trip to and from school. Bus stops are important places where patience and attention matter.
Drivers: When a school bus has its stop arm extended and red warning lights flashing, West Virginia law requires you to stop and remain stopped until the bus resumes motion, the driver signals you to proceed, or the warning lights are turned off.
Violating this law carries serious consequences:
⚠️ First offense: $500-$1,000 fine, possible jail time, and a 60-day license suspension.
⚠️ Second offense: $1,000-$1,500 fine, possible jail time, and a 180-day license suspension.
⚠️ Third or subsequent offense: $2,000 fine, jail time, and a one-year license suspension.

Students in Mr. Burnside's science class at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School brought plant cells to life by building edible models using pancakes, candy, cookies, and other treats! By matching each candy to a different cell structure, students gained a hands-on understanding of how plant cells work.

Homecoming: Virtual High School Students- the Homecoming dance will be held on Oct. 17th. Tickets will be sold Oct. 12th-16th. Students may purchase tickets in the front office or in the commons area during lunch that week.
Guest forms are available in the front office of the high school for pick-up now. All guest forms are due back to the high school by the end of the day Oct. 9th.
As a reminder, students must be passing all of their classes to attend homecoming. Grades will be checked on Oct. 9th before the purchase of tickets.

Students in Mrs. Hicks' 6th Grade Art Class have been exploring the elements of texture and the technique of cross-hatching while creating artwork featuring organic shapes. Through hands-on practice, students are learning how artists use lines, shading, and texture to add depth, dimension, and visual interest to their creations.
We love seeing our students develop both their artistic skills and creative confidence as they experiment with new techniques and bring their ideas to life!

🤝 Upshur County Schools was proud to participate in a community partner panel hosted by The Center for Community Engagement at West Virginia Wesleyan College 09/22/2026. The event connected first-year students with local organizations and highlighted opportunities to serve their communities through volunteerism.
We enjoyed sharing the needs of our students, discussing ways community members can make a difference, and exploring partnerships that support student success both inside and outside the classroom.
